With the pandemic situation taking a toll on businesses, not only are companies laying off employees but they have stopped hiring as well. To curb this trend, IT services company, Accenture, has put forward a global initiative to keep people employed.
Companies, such as Lincoln Financial Group, ServiceNow and Verizon have joined hands in this initiative, which is aptly called People + Work Connect.
As the name suggests, the initiative connects companies that are laying off people with those companies that are in urgent need of workers.
In an official statement, Ellyn Shook, chief leadership and human resources officer, Accenture, said, “By providing real-time visibility into which companies need people and where, People + Work Connect is designed to lessen the economic and societal impacts of the virus and help us work together to make a difference in the lives of hundreds of thousands of people.”
In a matter of a few days, the initiative has grabbed the attention of several companies. Companies, such as ADM, Baxter, Blue Apron, Cargill, Frito-Lay, Lincoln Financial Group, Marriott, Mondelez International, Nordstrom, ServiceNow, Walmart and Zenefits have already ensured their participation in this global initiative.
The statement also reveals that 250 companies are expected to join the team over the next week.
The business-to-business platform enables companies that are best positioned to rapidly share the experience and skills of their laid-off or furloughed workforces to connect— at no cost— with other companies on the platform that are seeking workers.
The global platform is initiated to expand the capacity of deploying people with similar skills from one industry into other industries, which will minimise the lengthy process of finding jobs.
The CHROs of the companies leading this initiative, have come together to create a collaborative, inclusive community to help put people back to work quickly, in areas of new opportunity.
