A directive issued by the Central government to all its departments on May 19, excused   pregnant women, as well as those employees with disabilities or medical conditions from joining back office amidst the pandemic.

This directive came a day after 50 per cent junior staff were allowed to resume work from office, post relaxation of lockdown and issuance of related guidelines.

On Monday, the Centre had asked its departments to function, with half their junior staff below the level of deputy secretary, working from office.

However, all officers of the level of deputy secretary and above are to attend office on all working days.

Similarly, persons with disabilities and pregnant women are to be excluded from the roster. The government servants who have underlying conditions or had been undergoing treatment for these ailments before the lockdown, will also be exempted from roster duty.

Exempted employees will have to provide their medical prescriptions from their treating physicians, for exemption.

All heads of the department have been asked to ensure that 50 per cent of officers and staff, who attend office, observe staggered timings.

    For the 50 per cent staff returning back to work, there will be three shifts — 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
