Saudi Arabia is again calling back workers from the Philippines. The two governments had entered into a formal agreement on 13 September following which the first contingent of Filipino workers left for Riyadh today, 7 November 2022. The contingent also includes domestic workers. The minimum wage of Filipino workers in Saudi Arabia is fixed at SAR 17,288 which amounts to approximately Rs 3.76 lakh.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development of Saudi Arabia has urged recruitment agencies to abide by the guidelines laid down by it.
“This is to avoid the penalties stipulated in the regulations of the Labour Law with regard to the recruitment activity and offering of labour services,” a spokesperson from the Ministry was quoted in local dailies.
The Government of Saudi Arabia has also fixed minimum wages for workers from other countries. For instance, workers from Uganda will receive a minimum wage of SAR 9,500 (Rs 2.06 lakh) annually, while workers from Thailand will receive 10,000 SAR (Rs 2.17 lakh). The figure is SAR 10,870 (Rs 2.36 lakh) for Kenyan workers Kenya and SAR 13,000 (Rs 2.83 lakh) for Bangladeshi workers.
For Indian workers from in Saudi Arabia, the minimum wage is SAR 18,000 which is around Rs 3.92 lakh, as per the Embassy of India in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
