In a move aimed at providing increased support to the families of government employees who tragically lose their lives while performing their duties, Naveen Patnaik, chief minister, Odisha has granted approval for a substantial enhancement of ex-gratia payments. The decision, announced on Wednesday, reflects the government’s commitment to recognising and honouring the sacrifice and dedication of these employees.
According to an official statement released by the CM’s office, the amount of assistance offered in the event of the death of a government employee while discharging their duties has been significantly raised. Previously set at Rs. 4 lakhs, the ex-gratia payment has now been increased to Rs. 10 lakhs. This substantial raise ensures that the families of these employees receive more substantial financial support during their difficult times.
Furthermore, the government has also recognised the importance of addressing cases involving permanent disability resulting from injuries sustained during duty. The assistance amount in such cases has been elevated from Rs. 2 lakhs to Rs. 5 lakhs, offering increased support to affected employees and their families.
In addition, the revised policy acknowledges the impact of partial disability and the challenges it poses for government employees. To address this, the amount of assistance provided in cases of partial disability has been raised from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 2 lakhs, aiming to mitigate the financial burden associated with such circumstances and provide a measure of relief.
