Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), unlike most other firms in the information technology space, is determined to continue hiring freshers from campuses. In fact, it plans to hire 40,000 fresh graduates in this financial year, and has no layoffs planned.
The IT services company is known to hire at least 35,000 at the entry level every year. While lateral hiring will also take place based on requirements, an eye will be kept on expenses given the company’s decision to move strategically in terms of hiring, taking into account the market conditions.
The company has a significant number of people on the bench too. Therefore, it is prepared to fulfil any hike in demand. In fact, it has at least 60,000 trained people, that is 10 per cent of its total workforce, available at any given point of time should a necessity arise. Therefore, by continuing to hire freshers, TCS is only improving its own utilisation and bench strength, according to information given to ToI by N Ganapathy Subramaniam, COO, TCS.
The company’s workforce strength is over 5.5 lakhs and comprises members from at least 150 nationalities.
Last week, TCS had revealed that 70 per cent of its employees have started working from the office. The company is urging the rest to also follow suit because it realises that integration of the old employees with the new hires — who haven’t had the chance to work from the office at all — is essential. Also, the company has started experiencing the benefits of in-office work with increased interaction and collaboration not only amongst employees but also with customers.
