    FedEx pilots reject 30% pay hike, tentative deal

    Pilots of parcel-delivery firm, FedEx, have not accepted the tentative contract deal offered by the company. The tentative deal offered a 30 per cent pay hike as well as a 30 per cent hike in pilots’ legacy pensions. However, the pilot members of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) — which represents 6,000 pilots of FedEx — voted 57 per cent to 43 per cent, to reject the offer.

    Negotiations will take place again, with the National Mediation Board supervising the same.

    In May, hundreds of FedEx pilots had demonstrated outside the company hub demanding a pay hike. They sought recognition of their expertise and skills and wanted to draw attention to the fact that their pay had not been revised since November 2020. They argued that their salary value had fallen considerably over the years, and had failed to keep up with the rising inflation.

    They said that they were merely seeking an industry standard contract.

    While the official starting pay of pilots was not divulged at the time, it is a known fact that the pilots of the company are amongst the most highly paid.

    The company had assured at the time that it was keen to arrive at a fair and ‘comprehensive agreement’and that it would continue negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement monitored by the National Mediation Board.
