Amidst the second wave of the pandemic in India, more people are relying on online purchase of essentials. Quite naturally, logistics firms and online delivery services for essentials have been expanding their teams. Not only are opportunities available for people in the technology, operations and warehousing wings, but in the last-mile logistics space too.
Having witnessed a 30 per cent rise in order value, BigBasket has already hired over 5,000 people at its warehouses and for its delivery teams over the last three months. The Company has been offering salaries in the range of Rs18,000 -30,000 to these new hires.
On the other hand, Grofers has taken on more than 2,000 since January 2021. It has also directly employed almost 400 people across functions, and plans to add more in the technology and warehousing wings.
Logistics company, Rapido, which caters to many big names including BigBazaar, BigBasket and Reliance Retail, has hired more than 60 people for multiple roles across technology, product and data in the last couple of months and expects to hire a minimum of 50 additional people in the near future.
Interestingly, BigBasket reported gross sales of about Rs 8,000 crore, in the financial year 2021, second only to Myntra, the online fashion retailer Myntra.
In November 2020, BigBasket had reported losing about 80 per cent of its workforce within two days of the lockdown. However, when demand soared and orders kept coming, the Company managed to hire over 12,000 people to help meet demand in a matter of just 16 days.
