Almost 20 companies participated at the start of the placement season at IIT Madras. About 102 offers have been made to students till now, including four overseas offers, in the first phase of the placement season that began on 1 December, 2019. This is a significant jump as compared to last year, when only about 85 offers were made to the students. The phase one of this placement session will last till 8 December.

Of the total offers made, 20 came from Microsoft, 11 from Goldman Sachs, nine from Qualcomm and seven from Boston Consulting Group. Samsung, Jaguar and Bajaj Auto were also amongst the prominent hirers at the Chennai campus.

A total of 1,334 students and 227 companies have registered for the placement session this year.

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) began their final placement season on 1 December, and the response from companies has been rather encouraging. Not only has the number of offers increased, but the salaries being offered are also higher despite the economic slowdown.

Between 80 and 120 job offers were made on the very first day of the placement season in each one of the older IITs. Maximum offers came from the information technology (IT) space and also from consulting firms. Across the older IITs, a few students received annual offers of about rupees one crore, especially for international positions.
