The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced a set of employee friendly services designed to make provident fund access easier and faster. The most notable is a verified WhatsApp service that allows subscribers to check their PF balance, view their passbook, and track the last five transactions directly on their mobile phones. Members can also receive personalised guidance on schemes such as the Employment Linked Incentive under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana.
This initiative reduces the need for employees to visit EPFO offices, making routine services available through a familiar platform. With over 34 crore members and 8 crore active subscribers, the move is expected to significantly improve accessibility.
Another major step is the automatic settlement of inoperative accounts with balances up to Rs 1,000. After Aadhaar and bank verification, eligible dues will be transferred directly to beneficiaries without requiring individual claims. This facility is expected to benefit around one lakh accounts, involving nearly ?5 crore.
Together, these measures reflect EPFO’s focus on worker centric innovation. By combining technology with empathy, the organisation aims to ensure that employees feel respected, supported, and included in the social security system.
These reforms highlight how employee services can be redesigned to improve trust and ease of use. By offering digital access, reducing paperwork, and ensuring automatic settlements, EPFO is setting a benchmark in how institutions can adapt to changing workforce expectations. Clearly, the emphasis is on social security being simple, accessible, and sensitive to the everyday needs of workers.
