All non-executive employees of Coal India (CIL) as well as its subsidiaries and Singareni Collieries Company (SCCL) are in for a windfall this Dusshehra. The Company will pay Rs 72,500 to each non-executive employee as performance-linked reward, for the financial year 2020-21.

This reward was decided on in a meeting where the representatives of Central Trade Unions (CTUs), as well as the management of CIL and SCCL were present.

This reward will benefit 2,50,052 employees. Last year, the non-executive staff of CIL, its subsidiaries and SCCL had been paid an amount of Rs 68,000 as PLR. The Government hiked the PLR this year in appreciation of the hard work of the ‘coal warriors’.

CIL accounts for over 80 per cent of domestic coal output.

Recently, the Coal Ministry of India had urged CIL to diversify its business into electric vehicles and charging stations and pods.

The mining company controlled by the federal government has already revealed its intentions to invest in coal gasification, extraction of coal bed methane, solar wafer manufacturing and power generation, and setting up aluminium smelters.

Last week, CIL was in the news when it got its first woman mining engineer to serve at the Churi underground mines in the North Karanpura area of CCL. This is the first time a core mining activity is being carried out by a woman, in an otherwise male-dominated space.
