Maharashtra, in December 2022, became the first state in India to establish a department dedicated to the welfare of differently-abled individuals, also known as Divyang. This move demonstrates the government’s commitment to creating an inclusive society that caters to the needs of all its citizens.

According to a statement released by the chief minister’s office, the Cabinet meeting made the decision to reserve promotions for Divyang individuals. This move is in line with the central government’s policy on the matter. The government hopes that this initiative will provide opportunities for differently-abled individuals to advance in their careers and contribute to the country’s development.

Furthermore, the Cabinet approved a proposal to exempt women from producing non-creamy layer certificates for positions reserved for them under the open category. This decision will reduce the burden on women belonging to open and backward categories, making it easier for them to secure positions in government jobs.

In addition, the Cabinet approved the ‘Chief Minister Solar Agriculture Feeder Scheme,’ which seeks to bring 30 percent of agriculture feeders under solar energy. This initiative will provide uninterrupted and sustainable power supply for agriculture pumps, benefiting farmers across the state.
