A newspaper advertisement by HDFC announcing walk-in interviews, with the statement, ‘2021 passed out candidates are not eligible’, had created quite a stir when it went viral on social media. The ad clearly sought applications only from graduates aged less than 28 and who had not passed out in 2021!
Fortunately, the Bank quickly issued a clarification saying it was a typo and that it regretted the error and also published the revised and rectified advertisement without delay. The Bank has said that all those below the age of 28 can apply irrespective of the year they passed out.
The ad was issued by the Madurai branch of HDFC, and the interview was scheduled for August 3. With social media already inundated with memes targeting the ‘corona batch’ or ‘COVID batch’ of students and labelling 2020-21 as ‘corona years’, there is a lot of uncertainty in the education sector and the job market. Naturally, coming at a time as it did, this advertisement, and that too from a renowned private bank, caused a lot of worry to young job seekers across the country, and shocked the Bank too.
Following all the social media buzz, the Bank did go ahead with the interviews and reportedly entertained many candidates who had passed out in 2021, putting fears at rest. The hiring was for Madurai, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga and Virudhunagar.
