After spending well over four and a half years with Unilever, Poonam Burman has joined Godrej Industries (Chemicals) as chief human resource officer.
An alumna of the Xavier Institute of Social Service, Burman has also completed an HR executive programme in HRM and services, from the University of Michigan.
The first stint of her career was with Hindustan Motors, as deputy manager – HR. She spent eight years there before moving to JayaShree Textiles, Grasim Industries, as human resources development manager, in 2004. Nine months into this role, she shifted to Indian Oil tanking as senior HR manager, where she completed a successful tenure of almost three years.
Her next stop was Orica, where she joined as head – HR, for little less than four years.
It was in 2012 that she first became part of Unilever’s UHRM, based out of Kolkata, for a little over two years.
The year 2014 saw her in Lexmark, as country human resources manager. In 2016, she moved on to Haldia Petrochemicals, as senior general manager and head corporate HR. After a year and eight months, she was back in Unilever.
In August 2022, she was elevated to the position of interim HR director, Unilever Srilanka and category HR head South Asia – Beauty Wellbeing and Personal Care Business Group.
Her 27 years of experience in strategic HR business partnering in varied industries such as FMCG, IT product development, automobiles, textiles, oil & gas engineering services, mining products and services, as well as telecom will stand her in good stead in her new assignment at Godrej Industries.
