The Directorate General of Training (DGT) and Skill India will get together to organise the National Apprenticeship Mela 2022 across India at over 700 locations today, that is, 21 April 2022.
The event is aimed to facilitate the hiring of over 1 lakh apprentices while helping employers tap the right talent, in addition to developing talent further by training them on practical skillsets.
The day-long fair is expected to see a participation of over 4,000 organisations from more than 30 sectors, including retail, telecom, electronics, power, IT/ITeS, automotive and more.
The apprenticeship fair will also provide opportunities to the youth to choose from over 500 trades, including welder, electrician, housekeeper, beautician, mechanic.
It is expected that the demand-supply gap in terms of skilled workers will be bridged through this event. Also, the youth will receive on-the-job training, and enhanced employment opportunities.
All those who have cleared at least standard V to standard 12, or possess skill training certificates, or hold diplomas, ITI certificates and even graduates may apply.
On-the-spot apprenticeship offers and industry exposure are just some of the advantages of participating in this Mela.
There is also provision for monthly stipend as per Government rules for new skill development, so that the apprentices earn while they learn.
On completion of apprenticeship / training, the candidates will get certificates, recognised by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET). This, in turn, will make them more employable.
