After Asia-wide roles, Kripa Krishnamoorthy takes charge of HR for Visa’s INSA market

Krishnamoorthy’s two-decade career has moved between market, regional and global HR mandates, taking her from Mumbai and Dubai to Hong Kong and back to Bengaluru

Kripa Krishnamoorthy has spent much of her HR career moving between two worlds: running people agendas within individual businesses and building them across markets.

Her latest move takes her back to the first. Visa has appointed Krishnamoorthy head of HR for its INSA market, following two years at Synchrony, where she led Asia talent strategy.

At Synchrony, Krishnamoorthy’s canvas stretched across Asia and a workforce of more than 10,000. Her mandate covered talent acquisition, learning and development, talent and engagement, and corporate responsibility. She also led talent strategy, organisation design and operating-model work for its Asia global capability centre.

That regional role followed more than a decade spent largely inside financial services, with Citi accounting for a substantial part of it.

Krishnamoorthy first joined Citi in 2010 as vice president for institutional businesses. She subsequently became SVP & head – diversity, organisation and talent development for Citi South Asia, working on talent management across more than 7,000 employees spanning investment and corporate banking, consumer banking and the company’s growing network of global in-house centres.

She later became head – HR, institutional clients business & global functions, Citi South Asia, partnering business heads across institutional banking, risk, legal, finance, compliance and audit.

There was a brief departure in 2017, when Krishnamoorthy joined Firestar Diamond Group as global head – HR. Based between Mumbai and Hong Kong, she worked on the organisation and people priorities behind the group’s international retail expansion.

A year later, she returned to Citi.

This time, her remit was consumer banking in South Asia. As director & head – HR, global consumer banking, she worked across a business employing more than 6,000 people in India, spanning retail branches, cards, commercial operations, analytics and operations and technology centres.

Her responsibilities widened further in 2022 when she moved to Hong Kong as APAC head – HR for Citi Global Wealth. The role covered a business of more than 5,000 employees across hub countries and branch locations in Asia, and included organisation design, leadership hiring, integration and change following Citi’s consumer-business divestitures.

Her career, however, began outside banking. Krishnamoorthy started with Marico in 2002, handling HR for India and the Middle East across Mumbai and Dubai. She moved to ABN Amro in 2006 and subsequently to Royal Bank of Scotland, where she worked on the integration of ABN Amro’s corporate and markets organisation with RBS.

More than two decades later, the geography and scale of her assignments have expanded considerably. She has worked across India, the Middle East and Asia, and across consumer goods, banking, luxury retail and financial services.

At Visa, that regional experience now comes back into a market-focused mandate, with Krishnamoorthy taking charge of HR for INSA.
