Tata Consumer Products (TCP) has extended its group health insurance policy to cover partners of its employees belonging to the LGBTQ community. The move is part of its inclusion first agenda, and in line with its ongoing commitment to promote a more inclusive and diverse workplace.

The Company’s earlier policy, which provided medical insurance coverage to existing employees will now also allow partners of LGBTQ employees to avail medical cover. This new move will be effective from December 1, 2021.

Amit Chincholikar, global CHRO, Tata Consumer Products, is confident that this move will “foster better engagement, keeping our people at the centre of our business”.

This is an attempt to create “a progressive work culture that respects and embraces differences among people…will always bring out the best in employees, and thereby enable them to perform better,” believes Chincholikar.

The consumer products company uniting the principal food and beverage interests of the Tata Group under one umbrella, currently has a 2,900-strong workforce globally, with over 2,000 employees in India alone.

The Company’s portfolio of products includes tea, coffee, water, RTD, salt, pulses, spices, ready-to-cook and ready to eat offerings, breakfast cereals, snacks and mini meals. It has an annual turnover of Rs 11,600 cr with operations in India and international markets.

In 2019, another entity from the Tata Group, Tata Steel, had introduced an HR policy allowing its LGBTQ staff to avail benefits for their partners.

Tata Consumer Products now joins the ranks of Godrej and Wipro, which are amongst the most popular LGBTQ+ friendly companies in India.
