The Uttar Pradesh government has approved a 30-day bonus for eligible state-government employees for the financial year 2025-26, ahead of Diwali. The decision will extend the festive benefit to non-gazetted employees across government departments, educational institutions, local bodies and district panchayats.

Daily-wage employees will also be covered, with the bonus capped at Rs 1,184. Under the approved arrangement, employees will receive 25 per cent of the bonus in cash, while the remaining 75 per cent will be deposited into their provident fund accounts.

Employees who have retired or are due to retire shortly will receive the entire bonus in cash, according to the government order.

The announcement comes amid a series of festive payouts by state governments to different categories of public-sector employees.

In Tamil Nadu, the government has announced a bonus and ex-gratia payment of up to 20 per cent for eligible Group C and D employees working in state public-sector undertakings. The decision is expected to benefit around 2.60 lakh workers, with a total allocation of Rs 367.20 crore.

Eligible permanent employees will receive between Rs 8,400 and Rs 16,800, depending on the applicable bonus and ex-gratia provisions. Workers in public-sector enterprises with an allocable surplus will receive 8.33 per cent as bonus and 11.67 per cent as ex-gratia. Those in enterprises without an allocable surplus will receive a combined 10 per cent.

Tamil Nadu has also approved separate Deepavali bonus and ex-gratia payments for employees of cooperative institutions and state transport corporations.
