‘Unvaccinated employees will not receive salary’: Municipal Corporation of Ludhiana

The Municipal Corporation of Ludhiana, Punjab will not be granting salaries to the employees who have not received full vaccination against the COVID-19 virus. Around 3,200 MC staffers have yet to take the second dose of the vaccine. Municipal Corporation Commissioner Pardeep Sabharwal has also officially ordered that entry should be disallowed to staff or visitors if they aren’t wearing a face mask. Strict action will be taken against the staff if they don’t follow COVID protocol or disobey the orders.

The visitors are going to be provided with face masks at the entry gates. Hand sanitisers will also be available at the offices for anyone who wants to use them. Orders have also been issued to buy sodium hypochlorite in case they need to start a sanitisation drive in the city again.

According to Additional Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal, there are 8, 400 employees in the Municipal Corporation, out of which, 50 employees have not yet received the first dose of the vaccination because of medical reasons. About 5, 200 staff members have got the second dose and arrangements are being made so that the remaining 3, 200, including a few executive engineers, and junior engineers can also get the shots soon. Former joint commissioner Kulpreet Singh, along with 60 MC staffers have contracted the disease since the outbreak.

As the Omicron variant spreads across the country, the state governments are trying their best to put in place all safety and precautionary measures to avoid the third wave of the virus.
