With an aim to support diverse family structures, Vedanta has introduced its new parenting policy. With this policy, women at Vedanta now have the option to take a sabbatical leave of up to 12 months for nurturing their young ones, with the assurance of job security upon their return.

The policy is also aimed at fostering a more inclusive workplace.

The comprehensive policy allows those continuing immediately after maternity leave to choose between working from home or opting for flexible working hours. This flexibility is available four weeks before the expected delivery date until the child reaches two years of age, ensuring a seamless balance between professional commitments and parental responsibilities. Career assurance during maternity leaves and additional support for career growth are integral components of this progressive policy.

In line with its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, the company has also expanded the parenthood policy to include enhanced benefits for all new parents.

Furthermore, the benefit will be extended to all employees, including single parents and LGBTQIA+ individuals legally commissioning or adopting a child. Caregivers (women/single parent/LGBTQIA+) may avail 12 weeks of leave for a child under one year, usable 30 days before the commissioning/adoption date and up to 90 days post-date.

Priya Agarwal Hebbar, chairperson, Hindustan Zinc & non-executive director, Vedanta, commented, “Emphasising that parenthood is not a hiatus from professional life but a transformative phase for all caregivers, our new policy underscores our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We hope that with this policy, we are able to set a new standard for progressive workplace policies across the nation.”

In addition to these measures, Vedanta has introduced a monthly ‘No Questions Asked’ work-from-home day to cater to the physical and mental health of women employees.
