Branch International, the global personal finance app, has appointed Sumith Sumithran as head of people for India operations.

Backed by over 14 years of HR experience, Sumithran will drive the people management strategy including talent acquisition, talent management, learning and development, performance management and diversity and inclusion.

An alumnus of Allied University, from where he studied business management with focus on human resource management, Sumithran began his career with Reliance Communications as deputy manager in 2008.

A little over three years later, he moved to ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company, as manager – human resources. This was a short stint of less than two years during which he shouldered the end-to-end responsibility of over 400 employees.

In 2013, he joined Fractal Analysis, as manager – human capital, and was promoted to senior manager – human capital in less than two years.By 2016, he was lead – human capital. This was probably the longest stitnt of Sumithan with a company, of almost six years.

His next stop was CleverTap, where he joined as director – human resources, and played a major role in building CleverTap into a Great Place to Work.

Commenting on his new role at the socially conscious company — that uses the power of data science to reduce the cost of delivering financial services in emerging markets—Sumithran calls Branch’s culture “a hidden gem”, which is”truly wondrous to all those who have experienced it but unknown to the world at large”.

He looks forward to sharing this story with the world, “while codifying the foundation required to amplify this culture as we scale!”

Sucheta Mahapatra, managing director, Branch India, is confident that Sumithran’s “experience and leadership will create a welcoming and inclusive culture and enable us to prepare for the next stage of growth”.

Sumith is based out of Mumbai. When not donning the HR hat, he is an avid automotive enthusiast, and enjoys a good game of volleyball and football.
