The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) witnessed a 15 per cent hike in campus placements this year, with students being made a total of 1,146 job offers including 135 pre-placement offers, from 298 organisations. The numbers reflected an all-time high. Of the total offers made, 21 were international.

While there were several first-time participants and about 51 startups, many others were repeat participants, including Google. This year, about 964 students bagged jobs as compared to 834 last year.

A significant number of participant organisations came from the data sciences and analytics sector. Almost 59 offers were reportedly made for positions in the data science domain alone. Micron and Intel India Technology hired the maximum number of students, that is, 26 each. Citibank, Microsoft, and Qualcomm made 23, 22 and 21 offers respectively.

The startups made 121 offers, of which 97 were accepted. Amongst the startups, those from the IT sector were responsible for 21 per cent of the offers, while those from the analytics sector offered 16 per cent of the jobs. The number of recruitments was the highest in the ‘core’ and ‘IT’ areas.

The biggest offers were reportedly made by Microsoft, Qualcomm, Goldman Sachs, and other big companies.

The ‘graduation outcome score’ comprising placement of graduates and other students, put IIT-M on the first position in the category of engineering, for the fourth year in succession, in the India Rankings 2019 of the HRD Ministr’s National Institutional Ranking Framework.
