E-commerce company, Flipkart, recently added more than 50,000 direct jobs across its supply chain, logistics arm and customer support to be able to tackle the rush of the festive season as well as the Big Billion Days sales, scheduled to begin on 29 September. Amazon too is reported to have added about 90,000 jobs in the buildup to the festival season. With this increased capacity, Amazon will be in a better position to provide great customer experience and improve its delivery capabilities.

Compared to last year, Flipkart has added 30 per cent more indirect jobs through its seller network in preparation for its annual six-day event. The objective is to improve the entire ecosystem by generating new job opportunities across locations and helping sellers scale up their businesses.

The direct employees are hired across the country to work for Flipkart’s warehouses, mother hubs and delivery hubs.

Amazon has created over 90,000 jobs in India— across its fulfillment centres, sortation centres, delivery stations, partner fulfillment networks and customer- service locations— in Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad and Pune, and other cities. The Company’s trucking, delivery, and packaging vendors and partners have also offered many indirect job opportunities. In early September, Amazon launched one of its biggest fulfilment centres in West Bengal, which is expected to not only double the storage capacity, but also create innumerable employment opportunities in Bengal.
