Tata Consultancy Service (TCS) is preparing to invest significantly in the expansion plans of its cloud-based learning solution, TCS iON. The cloud-based collaborative learning platform, TCS iON helps students — in India as well as worldwide — access study material, make submissions and also receive feedback. It helps students interact with instructors, administrators and learning institutions.

Using iON, instructors themselves can design courses and conduct assessments. On the other hand, administrators and other institutional officials can use the platform to organise learning events and develop learning communities.

TCS iON is going to first focus on getting institutions and corporates on board in large numbers, for content aggregation and corporate engagements. It will also seek entry into new markets, including South America and the UK.

This business unit of TCS — which caters to the education sector, as well as the small and mid-size business (SMB) segment — has been increasing its scale in the exam assessment and technical skilling space. Having filed more than a 100 patents in 2019, it aims to file more in 2020.

In 2018, TCS iON was chosen the platform of choice for the Skill India initiative, which is managed by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). Skill India aims to train as many as 400 million Indians by 2022.

There are about 257 TCS iON physical centres in the country, through which its programmes are delivered. And the unit now plans to expand its infrastructure in many other countries.

Not long ago, TCS iON launched an artificial intelligence (AI) driven command centre in India, to monitor examinations being conducted across 6,000 examination centres in the country.
