    Siemens to acquire Comfy

The smart automation app allows employees to take control of the environment — adjust lighting, book available rooms and desks, and share immediate feedback with teams.

Siemens Building Technologies Division plans to acquire workspace robotics firm Comfy, which is headquartered in Oakland, California —a simple user-friendly app that enables people to take control of their environment.

This single intuitive app directly integrates within it existing building automation, IT networks, and IoT systems, to provide on-demand control and smart automation. At a time when smart technology is becoming a must-have in the office, employees can now adjust lighting, find and book available rooms and desks, and share immediate feedback with workplace teams. They can thus meet the challenge of doing more with less.

Rising expectations coupled with limited resources, inaccessible data, and inefficient use of space creates a gap between what employees want, and what workplace teams can feasibly deliver. Comfy helps bridge that gap, as it is capable of crunching 50 million data points on a regular basis. This facilitates workplace strategy and helps real-estate teams increase employee satisfaction, while driving operational savings and improving space utilisation.

Post this acquisition, Comfy will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Siemens and continue to operate as a vendor-agnostic platform provider. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2018, subject to customary closing conditions. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Talking about this deal, Andrew Krioukov, one of the founders says, “Like Minds think alike.”

“By collaborating more closely with Siemens’ global teams, we look forward to bringing the unique Comfy experience to more people around the world, faster than ever before,” he adds.

The deal will help Comfy enhance the existing features and develop new functionality. This will make the app even smarter and more personalised for users. It will also be able to deliver even more value to real-estate and workplace teams.
