Apple has revealed intentions to invest over $430 billion and create 20,000 new jobs in the US over the next five years. This will include investment in developing next-gen silicon and innovations in 5G. Establishment of a billion dollar camps in Austin is already underway, which is expected to eventually employ about 15,000 people.

The technology firm already employs over 2.7 million jobs in the US directly. Since 2018, the Company has contributed more in the US than it had originally aimed to do. It had at the time set itself a goal to contribute $350 billion in five years. But now, it wishes to raise its contribution by 20 per cent, to encourage innovation and economic benefits across all US states.

New jobs will be created in the areas of 5G, silicon engineering, artificial intelligence and so on. Focus will be on innovations without compromising the future — on building a more green and equitable tomorrow. Investments will be done by way of lending support to the creative industry via Apple TV productions, direct spending with American suppliers, investment in data centres, capital expenditures in the country, and other domestic expenditures. It has been supporting employment in the iOS app space, which accounted for a significant part of the US commerce about two years ago.

With the Austin campus coming up, the tech company has expanded beyond its headquarters in the West Coast to leverage the diversity that exists in the labour market.

Staffing is set to begin in 2022.
