This placement season will witness the highest number of women hires by Indian information technology companies trying to improve gender diversity in their workforces. The highest number of women will be hired by HCL this year, from campuses. The Indian tech major is gearing up to welcome 60 per cent women from across colleges. Infosys is planning to have 45 per cent women in its workforce by 2030, while Wipro has plans to hire 30,000 freshers from campuses this year, of which at least 50 per cent will be women. Presently, women comprise 35 per cent of Wipro’s workforce. On the other hand, TCS, which will hire about 40,000 freshers from campuses, will ensure that at least 15,000 of these are women. The number may even go up to 18,000.

These four IT companies will together take on 60,000 women candidates through campus placements this year. Most of the hiring will be for entry-level roles.

HCL, which has its headquarters at Noida, will appoint about 22,000 entry-level candidates this year. It is trying to achieve a 50:50 ratio in terms of gender diversity in the future, which can happen only if it focuses on diversity at the entry level itself. Since 2019, 40 per cent of the hirings at HCL have comprised women.

Infosys has been hiring an equal mix of men and women at the entry level directly from campuses, even though the hiring is done on the basis of merit. The Company is set to take on about 35,000 freshers and provide them training in FY22.
