Anjali Sud, CEO, Vimeo announced the company’s intention to lay off 11 per cent of its workforce on Wednesday via email.
In the email, she mentioned every employee will be notified when to meet their team leaders and members from the HR team.
According to the annual regulatory filing, the company had employed over 12,000 employees in December 2021.
A spokesperson from the company told Business Insider that the layoffs were made to address economic concerns.
In her email, Sud said the company observed greater deterioration since their layoffs in July. Vimeo is one of many companies downsizing its workforce amid fears of a recession in the US.
Having gone public in May 2021, the company has since shifted its focus from becoming an alternative for YouTube, catering to brands like Gap, Nike and Expedia, to focusing on making it easier for the average person to make and distribute content.
