Googlers in the US to get electric scooters on returning to office

As part of its endeavour to bring back its employees to office, Google is offering free e-scooters to them.

Google has tied up with Unagi, the e-scooter company, to roll out the ‘Ride Scoot’ scheme. Under this programme, Googlers in the US will be offered full reimbursement on the monthly subscription for the e-scooter.

These e-scooters will help Googlers travel to work, or at least to the bus stop closest to them. Googlers in Silicon Valley enjoy free company-sponsored shuttle service.

After getting used to working from the comfort of their homes, Googlers are being enticed with e-scooters, which are aimed to make their transition to work-from-office easy.

The tech major is quite hopeful that its employees will eventually begin to work from office. In fact, the Company has been spending heavily on preparing the offices for their return and is open to investing on perks and incentives to draw them to office.

At a retail price of $990, Unagi’s Model One e-scooter has a range of 15.5 miles and speed of 20 mph. Those who do not wish to purchase the e-scooter can rent it for $49 a month (after paying a sign-up fee of $50), which covers maintenance and insurance cost too.

Unagi will put up booths at Google’s offices across locations — Austin, Sunnyvale, Irvine, Seattle, Kirkland, Playa Vista, and New York City — where employees can sign up for a monthly scooter subscription at a discounted rate of $44.10 per month, plus the $50 sign-up fee. All of this will be reimbursed by Google, provided the employees use the e-scooter to commute at least nine times every month (although there will be no tracking system in place to check usage).

Employees will be allowed to try out the e-scooter before deciding to subscribe.
