Now here comes a software that can keep track of employees working from home. Using TimeCamp, an employer based in British Columbia discovered that one of its women employees was wasting time during work-from-home.

Although the Canadian woman professional appeared to have logged in 50 hours, the TimeCamp software tracked her activities and found she was mostly not working during her working hours.

When her employment was terminated, Karlee Besse, the employee in question, claimed that TimeCamp had failed to distinguish between personal and duty time. Also, since she had been fired without any warning or advance notice, she demanded that she be paid about Rs 3 lakhs as severance, which would also cover pending wages.

Unfortunately, the Company was able to prove how efficient and accurate the software is. And therefore, instead of receiving money from her employer, Besse was directed to pay Rs 3 lakhs to her employer for having stolen time from her work hours.

The software had found that she spent most of the time away from her computer.

With the hybrid model of work becoming more common, many organisations are on the lookout for apps and tools that will help keep track of their employees’ location and even the length of their meetings with clients while on the field for official work. After all, with an increasing number of people working from home or out of co-working spaces or satellite offices, the chances of employees and their managers or team leads being co-located are slimming with each passing day.
