In the current round of layoffs taking place at Twitter, about 90 per cent of employees working in India have been shown the exit door. Twitter had about 200 people employed in India. Post these layoffs, only about a dozen people are left in the India workforce as per media reports.

The latest layoff round completed wiped out the marketing, communication and products team in India, while the engineering team also took a big hit.

The employees who are laid off have lost access to all Twitter assets and the office premises. As was expected, the layoffs have happened in a very cold manner. The employees were notified through mail and a few hours later, they lost access to all company accounts.

Post the acquisition of Twitter, Elon Musk, CEO, Tesla has decided to cut almost 50 per cent of Twitter’s staff. That means, almost 3500 employees will be losing their jobs. This aggressive move does not come as a shock to the world or the employees at Twitter as Musk has been indicating the need for such an action from the time talks about his acquisition of Twitter and the challenging deal started in the media.

The laid off employees will continue to receive their salary for two months. Ashwini Vaishnaw, IT minister of India has condemned this aggressive behaviour of Musk and said that employees in India should have been given some extra months for a smooth transition.

Since the acquisition of Twitter, the new ownership has fired all top leaders in the Company including the CEO, Parag Agrawal.

Musk is currently restructuring the whole of Twitter to make it more efficient and cost effective. More such aggressive steps can be expected in the future.
