Ministry of Finance has announced a Diwali bonus for non-gazetted Central government employees. This non-productivity linked or ad-hoc bonus will be given based on 30 days’ salary. Group C and Group B non-gazetted employees of the Central government who are not covered by any productivity-linked bonus scheme will benefit from this.

This ad-hoc bonus will also be granted to the employees of the Central paramilitary forces, as well as temporary workers.

The Government has also announced a grant of Rs 22,000 crore to support oil companies that have incurred losses because of the LPG prices in the country.

The one-time grant will help the country’s PSU oil-marketing companies (OMCs) cover their losses to some extent.

During the period June 2020 to June 2022, international prices of LPG went up by about 300 per cent. To protect consumers from bearing the brunt of the hike in global LPG prices, however, the spike in cost was not fully passed on to domestic LPG consumers. That is why, LPG prices in India rose only by 72 per cent, which caused losses to the OMCs.

Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) will benefit from this grant.

The Government has also approved productivity-linked bonus of Rs 1,832 crores for railway employees. The bonus will benefit over 11 lakh railway employees. The bonus will be equivalent to 78 days’ pay and will not exceed Rs 17,951.
