Sakha Consulting Wings has been offering women-driven cab services for more than ten years now in cities, such as Delhi NCR, Jaipur, Kolkata and Indore. Its professional chauffeurs, all women, have successfully and safely given over 1.5 million rides to various women clients.
In collaboration with GMR, Sakha Consulting Wings has started providing women-driven cab services at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, catering exclusively to women travellers. Launched under the brand name ‘Women on Wheels’, this initiative will truly be a saviour for women travelling alone from the airport.
All the women are experienced drivers who have also been trained in self-defence by Sakha’s strategic partner, Azad Foundation. The cabs can be hired at any hour of the day or night, from the 24×7 Sakha ‘Women With Wheels’ booth at Arrival Forecourt T3, opposite Gate no: 6 – near Pillar no: 16 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi.
Women travellers can also pre-book a cab online, before arrival and use the helpline numbers of the service.
The initiative has generated employment opportunities for women and will continue to do so in the future too. With a dedicated booth at the airport now, more jobs will be created for women from the marginalised communities.
The vehicles have been financed with the help of the National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NHFDC), and the initiative is expected to provide opportunities to persons with disabilities as well. Sakha collaborates with the Azad Foundation to help poor women earn a livelihood in a dignified manner.
