Emaar, a real-estate company, has introduced “Shram” – a bespoke skill- development programme tailored for its construction workforce. The move comes in line with the company’s commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) excellence and marks part of Emaar India’s 53rd National Safety Week Celebration.
Shram is an extensive 80-hour training initiative aimed at empowering construction workers with essential skills crucial for excelling in diverse job roles. The programme will cover bar bending and steel fixing, masonry, shuttering, and carpentry. Additionally, it will include modules on digital and financial literacy, soft skills development, and education on safety, health, hygiene, and housekeeping.
The aim is to equip workers with essential skills for navigating construction sites safely and efficiently – addressing priorities often overlooked in the unorganised sector. Through expert-led on-site training, informative sessions, and rigorous evaluation, Emaar’s initiative aims to comprehensively empower the blue-collar workforce.
Furthermore, the programme underscores a dual focus on theoretical understanding and practical application, with a paramount emphasis on safety practices intrinsic to the construction sector. Participants will receive comprehensive training on safety protocols, first aid procedures, and emergency planning vital for on-site worker well-being.
Through a strategic collaboration with Lok Bharti Education Society, the company aims to uplift blue-collar worker communities by equipping individuals with indispensable vocational expertise for sustainable livelihoods in the construction industry.
Speaking on the initiative, Kalyan Chakrabarti, CEO, Emaar India, stated, “I firmly believe that ‘Shram’ will catalyse transformation within a segment of society traditionally overlooked in terms of upskilling. By empowering our workforce, we can ensure a safer and more productive construction environment, educating them in the various areas of construction processes.”
The programme will debut at the Urban Oasis project and subsequently roll out at the Emaar Business District in Sector 114, Gurugram.
