Krishna Kumar Singh, director (personnel) at Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), has assumed additional charge as chairman and managing director with effect from April 2, 2026.
Singh brings nearly four decades of experience within SAIL, having spent his entire career with the organisation since joining as a management trainee at Bhilai Steel Plant in 1987. Over the years, he has worked across operations, human resource development, vigilance, and personnel and administration.
He began his career in the Blooming & Billet Mill, where he spent over a decade before moving into HR. Since then, he has held several key leadership roles, including executive director (in-charge) personnel and administration, before being appointed director (personnel) in 2022.
As director (personnel), Singh has been responsible for leading the HR function for SAIL’s workforce of over 60,000 employees. His work has spanned performance management, industrial relations, workforce planning, compensation and benefits, as well as learning and development.
He has also played a key role in wage negotiations through the National Joint Committee for Steel (NJCS) and in implementing major HR policy shifts, including the transition to the New Pension Scheme (NPS).
In recent years, Singh has led efforts to modernise SAIL’s HR practices, with a focus on employee welfare, capability building and preparing the workforce for future demands.
His additional charge as CMD comes at a time when public sector enterprises are navigating operational challenges alongside the need for workforce transformation and efficiency improvements.
Singh holds a degree in electrical engineering from IIT (BHU) and a postgraduate diploma in human resource management.
