Are Oracle employees bracing for possible Sept. layoffs

Speculation has grown on internal forums and Reddit, with employees pointing to September dates such as the 1st, 15th, and later in the month.

Oracle workers are facing fresh uncertainty as reports suggested the company may carry out another round of job cuts around 1 September. Managers have reportedly been asked to identify roles that could be eliminated, with some teams expected to see reductions in double digit percentages.

The concern comes only months after thousands of employees across the US, India, Canada and Mexico lost their jobs in March. That earlier round was handled abruptly, with workers receiving early morning emails informing them their roles had been eliminated, followed by immediate withdrawal of system access. Since then, employees have been closely watching Oracle’s calendar for signs of another wave.

Speculation has grown on internal forums and Reddit, with employees pointing to September dates such as the 1st, 15th, and later in the month. While none of these dates have been confirmed, the anxiety reflects the scale of Oracle’s restructuring. Over the past year, the company’s headcount has fallen by about 21,000, dropping from 1.62 lakh to 1.41 lakh employees.

The layoffs are linked to Oracle’s sharp increase in spending on AI data centres and cloud infrastructure. Capital expenditure jumped to $55.7 billion in FY2026, more than double the previous year. To fund this, Oracle raised tens of billions through debt and equity, while also recording $1.8 billion in restructuring costs.

For employees, the impact is twofold: job insecurity and the stress of constant speculation. Even those not directly affected feel the pressure of working in an environment where large scale cuts are possible at short notice. While Oracle’s revenues and cloud growth remain strong, the combination of heavy AI investment and restructuring has left workers bracing for what September may bring.
