Sony’s Bend Studio—that developed Days Gone and the Syphon Filter series along with other popular titles—has conducted another round of layoffs. This round has impacted about 30 per cent of the workforce. The layoffs followed the cancellation of a yet-to-be-announced live-service game, which the studio had been in the process of developing earlier this year. After discarding the said unannounced game, the studio is now focusing on yet another project that is yet to be named.
Earlier this year, Sony had officially cancelled the live service games of both Bend Studios and Bluepoint Games
The company has reportedly gone in for these strategic changes in pursuit of success in the longer term.
The studio has reportedly expressed gratitude to the departing team members, numbering 40, for the role they played and for their contributions that helped the studio achieve all that it has till date.
It is pertinent to mention here that Bend Studio created Days Gone, an open-world zombie survival game that was launched about six years agao, in 2019, on Sony’s PlayStation 4. It is known for its Oregon landscapes and landmarks. The remastered version of the game, available on PS5, has only added to its popularity as it offers improved graphics and performance.
The studio is likely to be focusing on its new project, which fans are hoping would be a sequel to Days Gone. However, there is no official information available on this yet.
