Permanent remote work for 90% of Zerodha’s workforce

Zerodha, an online stock broking platform, has announced that it will allow most of its employees to work remotely either from their homes or their home towns. The Company currently employs about 1100 people out of which, 950 are working from home at the moment. The Company wishes to continue with this arrangement in the future.

In an interview with Moneycontrol, Nitin Kamath, CEO, Zerodha, conveys that most of the employees are enjoying working from home.

After the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020, the Company decided to continue its operations remotely. It also added some satellite offices in the small town of Belgavi, in Karnataka. Employees in Belgavi have come to love the place as they have the luxury of living in independent houses and hire maids, which they could not afford in an expensive city such as Bengaluru.

The core team at Zerodha, however, will continue to work in a hybrid and flexible model.

Apart from flexibility, the Company has also taken steps to address the physical health of the workforce. In the month of February, Kamath announced a special bonus and pay for employees if they maintain their body mass index (BMI) at less than 25.

Kamath further challenged the employees that if they are able to bring their BMI down to less than 25, they can expect half a month’s salary as their additional bonus.

To address the mental health issues and stress levels at work, in 2021, Zerodha had made it a policy that no employee should be expected to be part of work-related chats after 6 p.m.
