In an endeavour to uplift and provide employment to the most neglected section of the society, the transgender community, the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has dedicated Noida’s Sector-50 metro station to the community.
Through this initiative, transgenders will be employed at the ticketing counter, in the housekeeping section and other activities at the station.
After declaring two stations as ‘pink stations’, considering the facilities for women, the CEO of Noida Authority, Ritu Maheshwari recently announced that Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) will make Noida’s Sector-50 metro station a dedicated station for the transgender community. The station will also be renamed ‘She-Man’ for transgender inclusivity.
In Maheshwari’s words, the initiative to employ the transgender community was taken with the objective of helping them connect with the mainstream. The station will be open for all commuters.
To provide the transgender community a comfortable working environment, the toilets and other facilities will be upgraded for their convenience, in the next one month.
Various NGOs that work for the transgender community are lending a hand in carrying forward this initiative. Earlier, the Government had dedicated the metro stations at sector-76 and Pari Chowk to women, calling them ‘pink stations’, on the occasion of International Women’s Day
