Prem Singh, president-global HR, Wockhardt has quit the pharma space to take up a more challenging role in another industry.

HRKatha spoke to Prem Singh this morning and wished him luck for his new stint as CHRO in a different industry from tomorrow, 22 February. While Singh has worked in the pharma industry for a decade, in his career spanning 20 years, he has worked in other industries as well.

Varun Upadhyaya, who was earlier working as an independent consultant, will now take his place in Wockhardt as VP and head-HR. He comes with the experience of having led pharma companies, such as Cadila and Dr. Reddy’s in the HR space, as global and country head respectively.

“I was never looking out for a change, but an interesting opportunity came up. It is a much larger role in a conglomerate which attracted me. I have done stints outside pharma earlier also, and my portfolio is quite diverse,” shares an elated Singh.

Prem played a key role in facilitating Upadhyaya’s movement. “I was running a consultancy when Prem called me and told me about this role. My experience in pharma and expertise in HR domain worked in my favour,” says  Upadhyaya.

“My focus is going to be on HR automation processes, strategic hiring and ensuring availability of manpower at any given time. I will strive towards achieving cost effectiveness and operational excellency in the organisation,” adds Upadhyaya.

Surely a new beginning for both Singh and Upadhyaya! Not only are they starting a new chapter professionally but are also changing cities. Singh will relocate to Delhi and Upadhyaya will move to Mumbai.
