Kotak Mahindra Bank has appointed Anupam Kaura as its chief human resources officer (CHRO), effective 3rd January 2024. In this role, Kaura will lead organisational transformation as part of Kotak’s initiative to accelerate change. This marks the latest in a series of strategic hires for Kotak, focused on driving growth through technology, customer experience, and product innovation.

Anupam comes to Kotak from CRISIL, London, UK, where he served as the global chief human resources officer, overseeing crucial areas such as talent strategy, performance and rewards, learning and development, and culture transformation.

In his previous role at CRISIL, he played a key role in team rejuvenation and skill enhancement to adapt to technological disruptions. Anupam also led the acquisition and integration processes for a fintech startup with operations in India, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, showcasing his adaptability and expertise in complex organisational transformations.

Kaura brings over 25 years of experience across Indian and global banking and finance, with a proven track record in strategic HR leadership, change management, and talent development. He holds a Bachelor of commerce degree from Delhi University and a Masters in personnel management & industrial relations from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS).

His appointment reflects Kotak’s commitment to building a future-proof workforce and fostering a culture of innovation.

As Shanti Ekambaram, whole-time director at Kotak, states, “Kaura’s blend of experience in strategic HR, change management, and technology integration aligns perfectly with Kotak’s vision to be a tech-enabled, customer-centric financial institution.”

Kaura’s arrival comes at a pivotal time for the Indian banking landscape, characterised by rapid digitisation and heightened competition. His focus will be on attracting and retaining top talent, building agile teams, and driving a culture of performance and learning. He will also oversee programmes for talent development, ensuring Kotak’s workforce possesses the skills and expertise needed to navigate the evolving fintech landscape.

“The Indian banking and finance sector is at an exciting inflection point,” Kaura remarked. “I look forward to partnering with the remarkable team at Kotak and contributing to its ambitious vision for the future.”
Kaura’s appointment signals Kotak’s recognition of the critical role of human capital in its future success. His extensive experience and expertise in navigating change and fostering talent will be crucial as the bank embarks on its next phase of growth in the rapidly evolving Indian financial landscape.

Established in 1985, Kotak Mahindra Group is a leading financial services conglomerate in India, with Kotak Mahindra Bank becoming the first non-banking finance company to convert into a bank in 2003. The bank operates with four Strategic Business Units, catering to retail and corporate customers across urban and rural India. As of September 30, 2023, Kotak Mahindra Bank has a national footprint of 1,850 branches and 3,170 ATMs, with branches in GIFT City and DIFC (Dubai).
