From 2018 to 2023, he was general manager (personnel and administration), for Central Marketing Organisation, Steel Authority of India. This assignment saw him based out of Kolkata.

It was in June 2021 that he became assistant general manager, SAIL.

Swarup’s tenure at SAIL has lasted over three decades, 32 to be precise. His stint with SAIL saw him working across various locations, including the Bokaro Steel Plant in Kolkata and Alloy Steels Plant, Durgapur.

His long stint at SAIL allowed him to deal with all aspects of the HR function, including hiring/recruitment, industrial relations (IR), organisation development (OD), shop floor human resources, as well as corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Having completed postgraduation in political science and MBA in human resource management (HRM), Swarup has also served in the vigilance branch of SAIL.

Additionally, Swarup has held the position of director in the Indian Iron and Steel Sector Skill Council, under the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).
