While the fear of layoffs is nothing new in big tech companies, a former Meta employee has shared a strange detail that’s now trending online. She said the night before Meta’s first major round of job cuts felt “almost like doomsday,” with people filling their bags with free snacks, drinks, and chargers before the layoffs began.
Adel Wu, who used to work at Meta, reportedly posted on X about the tense atmosphere during those layoffs. Her post went viral just as new reports suggested
Meta could announce another big round of cuts on 20 May, possibly affecting about?8,000?jobs. Wu recalled that uncertainty inside the offices was overwhelming. She wrote that during her last year at Meta, there were several smaller layoffs, but the one scheduled for 20 May?was expected to be “huge.”
She added that many of her friends still at the company are struggling with anxiety. Some are waiting to be laid off, while others are worried because their job is their main source of security.
