The oil major has entered into an agreement with the Telangana Prisons Department.

Indian Oil Corporation wants to give women convicts or undertrials a second chance by offering them employment at petrol pumps at a salary of Rs 9,000 per month.

The oil major has entered into an agreement with the Telangana Prisons Department to this effect.

Not just ex-convicts—who have completed their prison term and those who are facing trial and are out on bail—but other needy women too shall be provided employment under this initiative.

“We request all women ex-convicts and UT (undertrial) prisoners, single women, widows or destitute women to approach the jail superintendents in their districts for employment at petrol pumps in the same district,” said V K Singh, director general of prisons and correctional services, Telangana.

According to Singh, the Prisons Department aims to place as many as 2,000 women including ex-convicts in various industries this year. The objective is to curb crime by providing employment to underprivileged women.
