PRC report leaked, employees unhappy with recommendations

The Pay Revision Commission (PRC) report, which happened to get leaked and ended up going viral, has led to protests being staged by the Telangana government employees’ unions. Employees were disappointed with the 7.5 per cent fitment on basic pay that was recommended and refused to accept the same.

The protestors now want the Chief Minister to intervene, and have labelled the PRC report as ‘anti-employee’.

As per the revisions suggested by the CR Biswal Committee, the annual increment should range from 3.36 per cent of the pay in initial stages to 2.33 per cent in the final stage. The increment is to increase in three years.

The moment the report got leaked and became available on social media, employees’ unions and teachers’ organisations came out in protest across the state.

However, the state government maintained that the report was leaked before submission, and responded by stating that things are yet to be finalised by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, and that he would not take any step that would go against the welfare of the employees and pensioners.

Protestors feel that they had never expected such a low fitment and that some employees even thought it was a dearness allowance (DA) hike by mistake.

The employees had apparently demanded 63 per cent, while the Commission has recommend only 7.5 per cent, which is quite a come down. The employees had expected at least 43 per cent fitment and were naturally disappointed. Also, the employees feel the calculations are based on a three-member family whereas they should be based on a four-member family.
