PayU, the digital payments company, has revamped its insurance policy to include employees from the LGBQT community. Its expanded medical insurance policy will include hormone therapy for the employees in need of the treatment. The revised insurance coverage now includes gender affirmation surgery as well as pre-and post-care benefits too.

This is the Company’s way of showing support to all employees, regardless of their personal choices.

Essentially, “we are not just welcoming and encouraging everyone to be their unique self but celebrating their uniqueness at PayU,” said Priya Cherian, chief people officer, PayU.

By revamping its insurance policy to cover same-sex partners, the Company has tried to make them feel accepted and empowered.

All benefits and policies will be extended to employees from the LGBQT community and their live-in partners, while ensuring strict confidentiality and safety.

Cherian is of the belief that true diversity and inclusion lies “in recognising the uniqueness of one in many and thriving on the strength of many in one”.

Therefore, Cherian added, “building a workplace where everyone is respected, has access to all opportunities and the processes that are equitable to all, irrespective of their orientation and personal choices, is what we are striving for”.

The Company’s robust Employee Assistance Programme is well-equipped to enable a safe space for any discussion on any topic.

The organisation has a zero-tolerance policy and has a strict and effective redressal system in place in case of harassment of any form. It also ensures that all internal processes are gender neutral and inclusive of non-binary identities, whilst providing equal and open access to opportunities and resources to everyone irrespective of their gender.

Quite recently, PayU appointed Meghna Pal as the global DEI officer to instrumentalise the D&I strategy.

“Continuing the momentum built over the past years, the company is celebrating Pride Month with various activities and initiatives for its employees throughout June,” said the official press release.
