    Nagaland government forms ‘complaint committee’ to redress sexual-harassment complaints at workplace

    A six-member committee has been form by the Nagaland government specifically to address complaints pertaining to sexual harassment of women employees at their workplace.

    Henceforth, any woman employee of the Nagaland government who has been a victim of sexual harassment at the workplace can approach this committee that will then order an inquiry and take needful action.

    The complaints committee will have the authority to conduct and inquiry and submit the report, following which the concerned disciplinary authority can take action.

    It will be the responsibility of this complaint committee to spread awareness regarding the rights that women have in cases of sexual harassment.

    The committee will be required to submit a yearly report to the personnel and administrative reforms department containing details of the complaints they have received during the year and the action they have taken to redress the same.

    The complaint committee has been constituted in accordance with the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (prevention, prohibition, and redressal) Act 2013, and replaces the earlier committee, which was formed about six years ago and notified by the state administrative and personnel department in 2016.

    Hokhuli Chishi, secretary, higher and technical education department is the chairperson of the committee, while Sungtila Jamir, joint secretary, personnel and administrative reforms department, is the member secretary.

    Other members include Bodeno S Colo, additional secretary, social welfare department, Kusa Fithu, joint secretary, cooperation department, Rosy Athrila S, joint secretary, transport department and Abeiu Meru, president, Naga Mothers Association.
