To promote fairness, diversity and inclusivity, Unilever Nigeria has unveiled a new set of policies. Designed to cater to the diverse needs of its workforce, these policies are designed to enhance productivity and achieve a healthy work-life balance.

The policies will cover six core areas, including maternal and paternal leave, menstrual leave, lactation and crèche facilities, a hybrid working model, provisions for people with special abilities, and engagement initiatives. While these policies apply to all employees, there is a particular focus on the female gender to ensure a comfortable workplace for them.

The company, acknowledging the challenges associated with childbirth and the transition to parenthood, provides generous maternity and paternity leave beyond legal requirements. Expectant mothers are entitled to 16 weeks of maternity leave, while fathers receive three weeks of paternity leave.

Furthermore, the company also supports nursing mothers by offering onsite crèche and lactation rooms, enabling them to balance caring for their babies and children with impactful work.

In recognition of the diverse needs of female employees during their menstrual period, Unilever Nigeria allows a one-day menstrual leave to facilitate rest and recovery. The company has also implemented a hybrid working structure, allowing employees three days on site and two days of remote work, supported by allowances for remote work.

The company’s commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace is also seen in its dedication to being an equal opportunities employer. It has a strong emphasis on non-discrimination based on gender, race, colour, or background. Furthermore, the company actively strives to create a disability-friendly office environment and aims to have five per cent of its workforce composed of individuals with disabilities, providing meaningful job opportunities for them.
