Starting 31 December, a new salary scale will come into effect for engineering jobs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), as approved by the Cabinet at a meeting recently. The move is aimed at improving the work environment and bringing it at par with international standards and practices.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (HRSD) has reportedly stated that the new scale will apply government employees in engineering jobs under the Saudi Standard Classification of Occupations.

The new scale will be applicable to all employees who hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering specialisations from universities in Saudi Arabia or from authorised universities outside KSA, and who come under the general employee salary scale.

It is hoped that this change will help transform the career progression / growth of engineers in the Kingdom. The growth would be in line with the categories of engineer, association engineering, professional engineer and consulting engineer, say media reports.

Earlier this year, it was decided that with effect from 21 July, 2024, 25 per cent of engineering jobs in the private sector of the Kingdom of Saudia Arabia would be localised. This was part of KSA’s efforts to reduce unemployment to seven per cent by 2030.

It was reported then that the localisation would be applicable to private establishments with at least five employees in the field of engineering or related roles.
