The Karnataka government has approved a series of measures focused on employment generation and workforce development in its first cabinet meeting under Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.

The cabinet has cleared the recruitment for 56,000 vacant government positions. Authorities are expected to release a detailed hiring schedule soon. The move aims to address long-pending vacancies across departments and expand public-sector employment in the state.

In the private sector, the government will set up an employment exchange platform to link trained youth with employers. The system is designed to allow companies to post workforce requirements and access candidates with relevant skills. Officials have indicated that the framework will include provisions to increase participation of Kannadiga jobseekers in private employment. Stakeholder consultations will determine the structure of preference or reservation. The Cabinet has directed officials to prepare a detailed implementation plan within one month.

The government will also establish 10,000 Bharat Jodo Youth Associations across the state, with one unit in every gram panchayat and at the ward level in urban areas. Each association will comprise 150-200 members and will receive financial assistance to support activities in sports, culture, leadership, and community engagement. The initiative is intended to build local platforms for skill development and youth participation, particularly in areas with high migration for education and jobs.

The Cabinet’s employment agenda is supported by related infrastructure decisions, including a Rs 2,000 crore road resurfacing programme for Bengaluru and the expansion of the B-Khata to A-Khata conversion scheme to the entire state. Both are expected to generate additional jobs in construction and allied services.

The proposed employment exchange is likely to alter local talent sourcing, while the large government recruitment drive is likely to intensify competition for candidates with public-sector experience.
