As part of Godrej Consumer Products’ (GCPL) aim to promote a more inclusive and equitable workplace, the company is taking on women and persons with disabilities (PwDs) in production roles. In fact, GCPL aims to have 50 per cent women and five per cent PwDs in its workforce at the Malanpur plant in Madhya Pradesh.
The effort is part of GCPL’s attempts to foster diversity across its workforce. Recently, five candidates were selected out of the 28 that applied. All people with disabilities being hired at the Malanpur site will take on essential shop floor operational roles, such as machine operators and positions in quality and engineering departments. This ensures that individuals with disabilities are integrated into critical functions, contributing directly to the plant’s operations and success.
The company believes that through elimination of structural and behavioural barriers, more persons, including those with specific impairments such as locomotor, speech and hearing, can actively participate in the workforce. The hiring drive was carried out in partnership with Atypical Advantage, a firm specialising in disability inclusion.
According to Sumit Mitra, head-group HR and corporate services, Godrej Industries and human resources, Godrej Consumers Products, “By empowering people with disabilities, we aim to bridge the access to a more dignified and respectable life, reinforcing our commitment to building a more inclusive and dynamic workforce.”
Saurabh Jhawar, head of product supply organisation for India & SAARC, Godrej Consumer Products, revealed that the “new factory will have all the infrastructure and facilities to enable a safe working environment for everyone including people with disabilities.”
Godrej Consumer Products’ dedication to diversity and inclusion extends beyond hiring, focusing on creating an environment where all employees can reach their full potential. This move only marks a significant milestone in the company’s journey towards building a more inclusive India.
